About this work

Description

Cerebral malaria: histopathology This medium power view shows a Dürck granuloma in the brain from a patient with cerebral malaria. Microglial cells can be seen in the centre of the field. There are deposits of blue pigment, haemosiderin, which is a breakdown product of haemoglobin and which indicates previous haemorrhage in the area. This haemorrhage resulted from a ruptured small vessel. Perl's stain.
