Description

Extracts from 'Essays on Physiognomy' designed to promote the Knowledge and love of Mankind ... Translated from the French by Henry Hunter, D.D. [1741-1802] ... Printed 1792 (Incomplete). Illustrated by a few pen-drawings and pasted-in tracings in pencil. The first section has no title-page, the second a title-page as given above, and the third reads: 'Extracts from Dr. Hunter's Edition of J. G. Lavater's 'Essays on Physiognomy'. The 18 ll. are scraps of various sizes, and some deal with pictures, etc. in Italian Art Galleries. Henry Hunter's translation was published in five volumes (three volumes in five) in 1789-98. This MS. is very carefully written and on fine Whatman paper.
