About this work

Description

Cerebral malaria: histopathology This is a low power microscopic view of the white matter of a brain. It shows two Dürck granulomas. The pale foci are zones of degeneration of myelin and the visible nuclei are those of microglial cells (brain macrophages). PTAH (phosphotungstic acid haematoxylin) stain (which stains myelin purple). The patient died after having cerebral malaria for 10 days.
