Taking on the bomb.

This documentary made by an all-women team, Broadside, documents the development of the women's peace movement and the anti-nuclear campaign at the Greenham Common base. In December 1982 more than 30,000 women came to protest about cruise missiles. The ramifications of a nuclear war are outlined. It shows action in other countries; the US at Arlington, a march from Scandinavia through Europe to Paris. 'Babies against the Bomb' was an organisation which was set up and the members marched with their prams. Sabine ? a graduate in computer science uses a computer to link with other peace groups. Jill Knight, Conservative MP, disagrees with the women's views on nuclear disarmorment. Mary Kaldor (writer of 'The Distintergrating West') talks about the problem with secrecy around decisions about weapons. A clip of Dr Helen Caldecot on television is shown (but further material seems to have been edited out). Simone Wilkinson talks about her experiences, she was put on trial for a public order offence along with 10 others. They used their time in court to protest that nuclear weapons are illegal under international law.
