    The Lieutenant-Governor of Greenwich Hofpital, Captain Thomas Baillky^ having printed a large Volume, containing the moft ferious Charges againft feveral of the Governors, Directors, and Officers of that Effabllffnnent, and highly reflecting againff; its Adminlffration in general; Applications were made to the Lords of the Admiralty, by the Directors, the Officers of the Council, the principal Civil Officers, and feveral of the under Officers and Clerks, com¬ plaining of thofe Charges, and defiring Redrefs ; in confequence of which, their Lordships caufed a General Court of the Commlffioners and Governors to be- aflembled on the 14th of April'17781 when, after thofe Applications were read, a Committee was appointed to inveftigate the Grounds of the above Charges and, when they had compleated their Inveffigation, they were to let their Lordships know it, that another General Court might be'aflembled to receive their Report. We beg Leave to entreat the Reader’s utmoff- Attention to thefe. Proceedings. The Affairs of Greenwich Hofpital have, for fome time, been the SubjeCt of much Converfation: And, as few are in Pofleffion either of the Means or of the Leifure to enter into a nice Drlcuflion of the Particulars of the Charges above- mentioned, or have had- an Opportunity of knowing In what Manner'the Com¬ mittee was formed, the Reflilt of their Enquiries, or how far they appear to have proceeded with Judgment and Impartiality, it is incumbent on every Perfon, who wifhes to make himfelf Mafter of the Matter in Quefflon with any Degree of Accuracy, to inform himfelf of every Particular relating thereto. The Motion for the Appointment of the Committee was made in Confequence of the Defire of the Perfons abovementloned (who conceived themfelves greatly traduced and injured by Mr.- Balllles Charges) to have their Conduft enquired- into, and Juffice done to their refpedive Characters*
