About this work

Description

2 woodblock printed volumes containing reproductions of works by Ogata Kōrin (1658-1716). He was a member of the Rinpa school and the foremost decorative painter of Edo; he also produced ceramics, textiles and lacquerware. The selection and reproductions were the work of Ikeda Koson (1801-1866), an artist who turned away from Rinpa revival style of Sakai Hōitsu after encountering Ming painting. The title of this work, which was published in 1864 and distributed by Izumiya Kin’emon of Edo, recalls Kōrin hyakuzu, a tribute to Kōrin produced on the centenary of his death in 1815 by Sakai Hōitsu.
