Infant Mortality-rate. 35’o 18 *5 3‘68 212 Phthisis death-rate, 0*93 ; Respiratory diseases death-rate, 3'68. Both the zymotic death-rate and infant mortality-rate were very high, while the total death-rate was above the average of previous years. Infectious Diseases. Scarlet fever was the most prevalent disease (62 cases), and nearly half the cases were notified in December. Enteric fever (60 cases) and continued fever (22 cases) were also very prevalent in the latter half of the year, and 10 deaths were attributed to the former. Dr. Brown thinks it very doubtful if some of the cases notified were really cases of enteric fever, and he points out that while in the first half of the year the case mortality from enteric fever was 27 per cent., in the last six months it was only 7 per cent. As to the cause of the enteric fever prevalence, Dr. Brown says This matter was treated at some length in my “last month’s report, repetition could only weary you.
