    As far as we can collect, the religi¬ ous Houfes in England and Wales, are in all to the Number of 1041. ofthefe only 653 are of known Values, whilft there remains 388 of which we have no Eftimate. The only fair Method of computing the Value of the latter, will be by confidering the Proportion they bear to the former in Number. Common Arithmetick will informs us, that if 653 Houfes were eftimated at 171,314/. »8r. id. then 388 Houfes may reafonably amount to the Sum of ioi1j^il. oj. id,2 which added to¬ gether, make 273,106/. i8.>\ 3d\. Now one Penny in thofe Days was e- quivalent to a Shilling at prefent, as doth undoubtedly appear from the Obfervations that may be made upon the Proportion that Labourers Wages * * The tVages of an Hay-maker in the Reign of Henry the 7th, was fettled at one Penny, and in the Reign of Henry the Sch, never exceeded three-half-Pence, whereas Twelve-Pence now ts there loweft daily Hire.
