    The Burgh Public Slaughter House was inspected at in- tervals during the year and found to lie well conducted. Three and a-half carcases of cattle and three sheep were con- demned on account of Tuberculosis. Factories, Workshops, &c.—Twelve inspections were made by the Sanitary Inspector. Cleansing Regulations.—These were finally approved by the Board of Health and are now in force. Maternity and Child Welfare.—All births were notified. Forty-eight first visits and 478 re-visits were made by the Nurse Health Visitor. The records show that 21 babies were bottle-fed and 26 breast-fed, but 5 of the latter used artificial food in addifion. Eight long-tube bottles were in use, but this unsatisfactory type is gradually disappearing as mothers realise its dangers. Of the 47 houses visited, 8 consisted of one room only, 33 of two rooms, 5 of three rooms, and 1 of four rooms. In 6 the rooms were small, and in 41 of fair size. Four houses were very clean, 29 fairly clean, 10 dirty, and 4 very dirty, but it should be noted that many were so bad structurally and so lacking in ordinaiy conveniences that real cleanliness was almost impossible to attain. Only 6 had water-closets and sinks. It, is surprising that any healthy children at all are reared under these conditions.
