Biographical note

This project was funded by the Wellcome Trust and undertaken by Dr Tilli Tansey of the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine, University College London and Professor Leslie Iverson of the Department of Pharmacology, University of Oxford. Mr Richard Thomas conducted the interviews.

The aim of the project was to interview on film twelve prominent neuroscientists, from three disciplines: neuropharmacology; psychiatry / neuropsychology; and neuroimaging. The interviewees were:

Geoffrey Burnstock

Salvador Moncada

Ann Silver

Alan North

Michael Rutter

Uta Frith

Elizabeth Warrington

Richard Gregory

Peter Mansfield

Roger Ordidge

Terry Jones

Richard Frackowiak.

The interviews took place between August 2006 and June 2008. Each interview lasted three hours. The initial interview was then edited to remove the interviewer's questions and a final tape of just under an hour was produced. A full transcript of this shorter interview was also prepared. The transcription, editing and indexing was completed in March 2009. The interviews were then segmented for transmission as podcasts and made widely available from a project website and from iTunes and YouTube, as well as being distributed on CD.

Related material

The project web-site, from which the interviews may be accessed as .mp3 audio files and youtube video is now maintained at Queen Mary University of London and may be accessed here.
