    knife introduced between the pins, but, if possible, the opening should be deferred for twenty-four hours, when a barrier of lymph will have been thrown out. After opening, a No. 8 soft catheter is inserted, to which Fig. 2 a piece of tubing is fixed, and by means of a funne the patient can at once be fed with warm milk and egg, or whatever liquid may be thought desirable. Fig. 3. The catheter may be left in position for a few days^ after which I find that it is easy to insert it whenever a meal is required.
