About this work

Description

Pietro da Montagnana, seated and writing the book on urines that is attributed to him in Ketham's Fasciculus medicinae. Above him, on a shelf, are volumes by Aristotle, Hippocrates, Galen, Avicenna, Haly Abbas, Rhazes, Mesue, and Averroes. On a stand on his desk is a volume of Historia naturalis by Pliny. On a step below the desk is a volume of Conciliator differentiarum, quæ inter philosophos et medicos versantur by Pietro d'Abano, and two other volumes by Isaac Judaeus and Avenzoar. In the foreground are three people who have brought urine flasks in wicker baskets for examination and prognosis
