About this work

Description

An episode in the Thousand and one nights: Abu Kassim of Cairo puts on another man's pair of shoes that he had found at the entrance to a hammam. Later he tries to dispose of them, but after several vain attempts, he buries them in his garden. As he has the reputation of being a miser, his neighbours think he is burying treasure, and so dig the garden up. The rest of the story continues with Abu Kassim's attempts to get rid of the shoes, in the course of which he loses more money than he would have spent in buying them in the first place
