    vented, one a demonstration ophthalmoscope by Thor- ner, the other an electric light ophthalmoscope by Oscar ¥/oltf. I resrret that we were unable to obtain these for the exhibit. It would have been impossible to make this collection complete. But a sufficient variety is shown in the 140 instruments making up the exhibit to afford a good demonstration of the development of the ophthalmo- scope and of its many modifications. All have been collected in this country, and I trust that the section will agree with me in urging the Surgeon-General of the United States to arrange a permanent historic exhibit at the Army and Navy Museum in Washington. Many of these instruments are already very rare and will otherwise be lost in a few years. I feel confident that many who have loaned their instruments to us will be willing to loan them, and some, perhaps, to give them, to the Surs^eon-G-eneral^s Museum.
