About this work

Description

This video shows the pressures placed upon young people by society where alcohol is concerned. The beginning of the film gives an idea of the appeal of alcohol with testimony of young people (vox pops) over a party/disco scene. There are several dramatised sequences such as a car crash and then a police raid on a pub looking for underage 18 drinkers, a car being vandalised and violent confrontations. There's also real footage of teenagers under the influence of alcohol outside clubs, in bars (demonstrating that the idea of booze Britannia is nothing new) and seedier shots of down-and-outs. Some of the participants are the same as in "Getting drunk: the teenager speaks".
