Inquisitions) Item we saye that wher there was ilj inquisicions hertofore passyd & founde one by Thomas Cave the yonger of Kyrkton charged & sworne the iiij day of August in the xxxvj yere of kynge Henrye the viij'e and a nother inquisicion by George Hylton of Donyngton gent’ the xvij day of Septemper in the fyrst yere of Edward the syxt and the thyrd was passyd by Robert Stevenson of Kyrkton chargyd & sworn in the 3 & 4 yeres of kynge Philype & quen Marye yt was found & presentyd that was nydfull & profytable for the safegard of the countre to have viij smalle gootes layd & mayd uppon the banke of the haven att Lang- rake in the syke ende issewynge owte of the Lawe Fen & Hey Fene -callyd the viij'e Hundrethe Fene to drean shuch waters as passythe by the sayd fenes unto the sayd syke & the sayd gootes & everye one of the sayd gootes contayne in lenght xx fote & in brede or depnes 1j fote att the lest & foure of the same gootes to be mayd layd & kept by the holle inhabitaunce of the viij C & two of the same to be mayd & layd & kept by the inhabitaunce of Quadrynge Donyng- ton & Byker & the other two to be layd mayd & kept by the in- habitaunce of Swaton Byllyngborrow & Horblynge, wherof we saye uppon our othes that the towens of the viij Hundrethe have layd two and that Quadrynge Donnyngton & Byker have layd one in parte of performaunce of thos verdytes before rehersyd but the towens of [K]esten as Byllyngborrow Swaton & Horblynge have not in no maner of wyse [acco]mplyshed any kynde of thynge in the verdytes hertofore mayd to the great undoynge of the hole countre wherfore we pray that the same towens may be chargyd with some parte as the other towens be accordyng to the sayd old verdytes. ae Gosbertown & Surflet ae (1) Fyrst Henry Death & Rychard Hunyngham of Gosbertown and Thomas Margerson & Jhon Pett of Surflet sworn upon ther othes do say that ther is a pare of clowes in Surflet standyng at a place called Lowgate which is greatly decayd & broken and it is meet necessarye & convenyent that the said clowes be newly made erected & sett up in the same place where they now stand or nyghe therunto. And the same clowes owght to be mayd repared and amended from tyme to tyme by the lordes & landes holderes of Gosbertown & Surflet by acre sylver as of old tyme they have ben accustomed.
