Notes

21 in a series of 21 life-sized collaborative photographic portraits, the first 20 originally commissioned for the 19th Biennale of Sydney 'You Imagine What You Desire', held 21 March 2014 - 9 June 2014.
This work was commissioned by Wellcome Collection in conjunction with the exhibition 'Being Human' and completed onsite between 10th November and 10th December 2019. Heart n Soul identified a sitter for the portrait and supported recruitment of participants in the workshops.
This portrait is of Danny Smith, a multimedia artist with Downs Syndrome. He was part of the collaborative workshops that created his portrait. Participants collectively collaged the image to reflect his identity, dreams and life story. Danny’s art embraces performance, drawing, film and photography. He says, “First I was a baby and I was handsome, then when I was a teenager I became more who I am. My art comes from my heart.”--exhibition caption from Being Human, Wellcome Collection.
