About this work
Description
Following research carried out at the University of Warwick which revealed that a small but significant number of psychotherapists are sexually abusing their patients, "Public Eye" set out to interview victims and identify offending practitioners. All the patients taking part in this film are women, but not all the abuse is carried out by men. The vulnerability of the psychotherapeutic patient is emphasised and the nature of the patient-therapist relationship is analysed. Reputable members of the profession are highly critical of the lack of regulation which enables anyone to set up as a psychotherapist, and allows offending pratitioners to continue working.
