Writings, letters, poems etc either by, or relating to, patients at The Retreat Includes the following 1.  A short note, probably to Dr Kitching asking for a few days absence, saying 'The Avenger of blood is behind me' 2.  'Declaration of 4th March 1856': a series of questions patient is asking about his/her case and treatment and why he/she is there, probably intended for Dr Kitching 3.  A patient's description of symptoms 4. A small drawing of a Venetian scene in pen and ink 5.  Patient's writing: 'Chapter 2nd. From the 1st October 1852 to the 1st December 1853' (describes fictional adventures) 6. Letter from 'Cantab' to John Kitching containing a murder threat: he and his companions are insane so can commit murder with impunity, 1866 7. 'Quakers' Marriage': an account of a marriage between Quaker, unclear if this is fact or fiction 8. Reading lists, one entitled 'Employment for Monotony' 9. An account of a trip to Gainsborough, 2 June 1875: gives times and details of journey; with itemised bill for the journey
