About this work

Description

Materia medica: in French. On the first leaf the name 'Bardy de Lupiny [?] is written in pencil. The script is the same as that of the compiler's 'Praxis medica' [MS. No. 1066]. The date 1790 is found on fol. 11, and 1806 in an added note on fol. 10. The compiler of this MS. and the next, may possibly be Mathieu Bardy [1764-1848] who was 'Chirurgien Élève interne' at the Hôpital Général in Paris in 1791. Through the influence of Larrey he became 'Chirurgien second des Ambulances' of the Army of the Rhine, and later 'Chirurgien en chef' at the Belfort Hospital in 1794. He took his M.D. degree at Strassburg in 1803, and afterwards became Surgeon to the Military Hospital of that city.
