The etiology, symptoms, diagnosis, and nature of disease are treated in as many chapters, upon the received principles of medical science and medical practice, in re- ference to the special topics of his work, with great clearness and ability. Particularly, there are about fifty pages occupied with the morbid effects of dental disease upon the general system, which makes the work of the highest value to the practitioner, and shows how large a service the dental surgeons have already rendered to general medi- cine both in diagnosis and remedial practice. Indeed the work so well performs its double duty to dentist and physician, that we are at a loss to say which is the most indebted to the author for its publication; nor need we, for both need it, and to both we recommend it. We have spoken, or intended to speak, heartily in praise of Dr. Bond's work. It has unmistakeable excellence of thorough medical science in its subject matter, and of a capital authorship in its style and treatment, and the sugges- tions which we take leave to offer to our author, in no respect abate our admiration for him or his performance.—American Medical Journal. The work of Professor Bond opens a new era in the history of dental surgery, point- ing out, as it does, the pathological relationship between diseased teeth and other parts of the body; it demonstrates, in the fullest and most conclusive manner, the importance and absolute necessity of a thorough knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Therapeutics, to the dentist. Indeed, we regard the book as indispensable, both to the student and practitioner of dental surgery; and it may be read with equal profit by the physician. It embodies, and within narrow limits, a large amount of valuable in- formation, embracing etiology, symptoms of disease, diagnosis, treatment of disease, nature of disease, ulcers, tumors, &c. As a literary production, the work is highly creditable to the accomplished author, and as a contribution to the science of dental surgery, it is certainly invaluable.— American Journal of Dental Science. Dr. Bond has conferred a signal service by the preparation of this volume, in which he regards Dentistry as a scientific pursuit, and aims to render its practice a worthy and useful profession. With elaborate skill and ability, he has here magnified his de- partment as important alike to the dentist and physician, but not without demonstra- ting its just claims to be thus esteemed. All who candidly examine thi-s work will discover what ought to be sufficiently evident without it, that no man is adequately qualified to practice dentistry who has not received a medical education. We cordially commend this volume, in view of the importance of the relations of the teeth and their appendages with other, and even with vital organs; a subject too often overlooked and undervalued by our profession.
