Portrayed in the dock, wearing prisoner's uniform. Jailed for collecting funds for fraudulent charities, released in July 1873. Tried in 1877 for inveigling Mme de Goncourt and others into investing in a fraudulent scheme involving betting on horseraces; jailed 1877-1887. Agent of Adelina Patti in New York; jailed for fraud there and killed himself in the Tombs (New York Halls of Justice and House of Detention)
