About this work

Description

"A private bathhouse for the poor was built in George Street, Euston Square in 1846 with water supplied by the New River Water Company. The water company subsequently closed its reservoir and the bathhouse was forced to close"--Marja Berclouw, 'A prosaic but useful service: bathhouses and washhouses, an idea whose time had come', The Victorian web, https://victorianweb.org/science/health/berclouw.html . The building was at 14 George Street, apparently on the west side of the street: in 1966 the street was renamed North Gower Street
