It will be seen that the balance of INCOME over Expenditure for that year was £296, which amount, although in the light of present day values pales somewhat insignificantly, nevertheless at that time represented no less than 28% of the year’s Expen¬ diture. With what excusable envy this is looked upon to-day may be gauged from a comparison with the following Income and Expenditure Account for 1921, when the excess of EXPEN¬ DITURE over Income was £8,990, or a deficiency of over 16% of the year’s Expenditure. 87
