About this work

Description

3D reconstruction of micro-computer tomography (CT) scans of a single human vertebra at the T8 level (the eighth thoracic vertebra) from the spine of an infant at term. The spinal column of an infant within the first year of life was visualised and then rendered to give this cross-sectional view. A 19th century collection of juvenile skeletons whose age had been documented at death were kindly donated by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The vertebra is approximately 1.3 cm (0.5 inches) high and 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide.
