College of Physicians Lettering continues: This Colledge belongs to the Society of Physicians, who were constituted a body corporate in K. Hen: 8ths time and have since had severl. acts of parliamt. in their favour. For ye safety of the subject and encouragemnt. of ye science of physick, none can practice physick within ye City or 7 miles thereof, without a Licence under the seal of this Colledge; they have authority to search Apothecarys shops to see if their Drugs are good & compositions well made up. They can make By Laws for their own Governmt. & can impose a fine or imprisonment on Quacks or other offenders. On 2 days of ye week ye Fellows of this Colledge in their turns sit in ye Publick Hall, where great numbrs. of poor resort to them & are directd. gratis in what manner to prepare things easy & proper for their cure, at their own houses, & as for those Medicines wch. require more art in makg. up, they are directd. to ye Dispensary belongg. to this Colledge, where ye best Preparations are Dispensd. to them at low prices
