Henry Russell (1812-1900), English pianist, baritone singer and composer, of Jewish descent. Composer of songs against slavery and private lunatic asylums ('The maniac', 1840), of 'Woodman! Spare that tree!’ (1837) and 'A life on the ocean wave' (1838). Portrayed seated at the piano composing his song 'Cheer! boys, cheer!' (1851)
