Description
Leishmaniasis and hepatitis C
This is a high power view of the same biopsy as shown in image W0047288. Between the pale and swollen hepatocytes there are macrophages containing large numbers of Leishmania sp. amastigotes. This is co-infection of HIV, hepatitis C virus and Leishmania sp. H&E stain.
The hepatitis C virus has caused the cirrhosis, not the leishmaniasis.
