About this work

Description

Small, silk charity flag (without its pin) printed in dark blue and deep orange (may once have been red) on white. Within a red border, a well-dressed, one-legged boy is standing on crutches next to the text. The reverse is blank. These flags would have been handed out in exchange for donations on a fund-raising flag day either during a house to house or street collection. Possibly from the 1920s. The Lord Mayor Treloar Cripples Hospital and College was founded at Alton in Hampshire in 1908 and taken over by the NHS in 1948.
