Description

Observations Sparsa, a note on the effect of laughter upon the diaphragm (fo. 167); "Chirurgica," five short recipes in English and Latin lettered A-E and headed "Boyl." [The Hon. Robert Boyle, 1627-1691] (folio 167 verso); note headed "Urina," on the urine of a fever patient (fo. 168 verso); "Medicamenta Selecta quedam," 9 short preparations, one of which mentions "Cortex Peruv." (fo. 169 verso); "Febris Putrida," addenda to the section so headed in the body of the text, i.e., on fo. 147 verso et seq. (fo. 170); "Dieta," note in Latin on diet in prolonged illness, this and the following entries are in a different handwriting, presumably that of a later owner of the book (fo. 171); "Hoplochrisma," prescription in Latin (fo. 171 verso); "Decoctum Amarcini" (fo. 172); "Herpes. My Br. Boyl Moor had a grievous Herpes in Scroto, inguinibus and ye inside of his thighs. Mr. Gill cured him in a few days," by blood-letting, a fomentation of elder-flowers and an unguent. This entry is dated Dec. 15, [Thomas Gill, M.D., ob. 1714], 1693 (fo. 172 verso); various prescriptions, including "The Household Salve," "Dr. Ratcliff for a cough," [John Radcliffe, M.D. 1650-1714] and "The Lambative ... Given to me by Madme. Hill, Jan. 26, 169 4/5" (fo. 173-174). Folios 175-185 blank.
