Description
Film with explanatory intertitles and experimental foetuses delivered for study via caesarean section at known stages of gestation. This illustrates the functional development of the mammalian nervous system (in the sheep) during intra-uterine life (and this work would occupy Barcroft and Donald H. Barron 1934-1939). This film shows the general character of the activity of the fetal lamb as it changes in age to various stimuli. The intertitles vary considerably in style; there are various film joins and differing film stock which have been combined together to create this film of their findings. There is a somewhat crude illustration of the brain stem. End of Part II.

Notes
This is one of 27 films which were discovered in a wooden box in the Department of Anatomy, University of Cambridge, in July 1974. Examination of the script of the titles indicates that they are at least part of the collection from the experiments of Joseph Barcroft largely on the foetus in 1939. The collection is not complete, and the films seem to have been labelled firstly by Joseph Barcroft and secondly by two other methods. The order ascribed to the collection has been attributed to D. H. Barron.
