The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine was founded in 1899. R.W. Boyce was the first Dean. C.S. Sherrington was Holt Professor of Physiology at University College, Liverpool, from 1895. Ross was the first Lecturer in Tropical Diseases and, from 1903 to 1912, Alfred Jones Professor of Tropical Medicine
