About this work

Description

Mycobacterium avium infection (mycobacteriosis) This is a low power view of a duodenal biopsy from a patient with HIV and mycobacteriosis. It shows the typical flattening of the small bowel mucosa with blunting of the villi. This occurs because the lamina propria is heavily infilatrated by macrophages containing mycobacteria. H&E stain. This biopsy is from the same case as images W0047318 and W0047319.
