Biographical note
Keep our NHS Public (KONP) was founded in 2005 to campaign against the privatisation and commercialisation of the National Health Service, and halt cost-driven NHS cuts and service closures. The campaign is built on the principle that the NHS should be a public service, funded through taxation, free at the point of use, free from commercial and private sector interests, and accountable to the public and to Parliament.
The organisation's aims include repealing the Health and Social Care Act 2012 and other NHS privatisation legislation; bringing back government responsibility, ownership and accountability for the NHS; rejecting private competition within the NHS, including the rejection of the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP) and reversing all foundation trust plans; establishing adequate funding for the health service; as well as rejecting Public Finance Initiatives (PFIs).
KONP is made up of local campaign groups targeting local health issues, such as regional hospital closures and reduced GP opening hours, as well as broader issues concerning the privatisation of the NHS.
