    Preface This little work is an amplification of a paper with the same title which appeared in The Lancet of August 8, 1908. In it no attempt has been made to deal with the subject exhaus- tively, and it is offered to the Practitioner of Medicine merely as a brief resume of just so much of our present knowledge of Lactic Acid Ferments as may be likely to be of assistance to him in prescribing them in a scientific manner.
