About this work

Description

Bible. N.T. Luke 22-38. As the man holding Jesus bears no typically priestly attributes, we may infer that he is Simeon, who was met on the way to the temple. Simeon announces that he is free to die now that he has seen the saviour. The kneeling, unhaloed woman may be Anna, the prophetess mentioned in Luke 2.36
