About this work

Description

This documentary looks at how 'deep brain stimulation' surgery can help people suffering with severe Tourette Syndrome. We meet Sean Hume for whom the surgery was life-changing, and Keith whose Tourette's tics are so bad they are frequently life-threatening and who is desperate to try out the surgical option. Hardly any neurosurgeons will attempt this operation, but 75-year-old neurosurgeon Donald Richardson is one who will. We follow Keith through his surgery and recovery time afterwards. We also hear about 13-year-old Brett who had the surgery but became very ill with meningitis afterwards.
