About this work

Description

Described as a 'lecture demonstration', animations and narration show the essential structure of the kidney and its circulation. Experiments on an anaesthetised dog then demonstrate the permeability of the glomerular membrane. Whereas small molecules pass through both a cellophane membrane and the kidney, large molecules pass neither. The effects of pressure, adrenaline, haemorrhage, restoration of blood volume and an overdose of chloroform are illustrated, as well as the mechanism of secretion.
