About this work

Description

A confocal micrograph of a neuronal culture generated from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Human skin cells were reprogrammed to make induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) by introducing defined genetic factors. iPSCs have functional and morphological characteristics similar to those of embryonic stem (ES) cells. The human iPSCs were initially differentiated into neural stem cells and subsequently to neuronal cultures that contained both neurons and glia. The neuronal cultures are stained with the neuronal marker beta-III tubulin (green), the glial cell marker GFAP (red) and the nuclear marker DAPI (blue).
