There were 30 recorded infant deaths during the year, of whom * ID were males and II females. Of the total, 20 occurred before the child was four weeks old, and 25 were due to prematurity, congenital abnormalities or the hazards of birth. It is gratifying to note that the infant mortality rate has fallen ^ to a new record low figure of 19.20 per 1,000 live births, and this rate is the lowest that has been recorded in the County Borough.
