THANKS. Special thanks are due to :— The Ladies Guild for their excellent work in organizing the Annual Fete and Sale of Work, which enabled them to endow their 42nd and 43rd beds, which were named “The Victory Bed” and “The Sunderland Constabulary Bed.” Since its inception, the Guild has raised .£43,609 for endowment purposes. The Children’s Hospital League, who raised £l,446 by “ Heather Week” and other efforts. The organizers and helpers of the Young People’s Brick Scheme, who raised £300 for the Children’s Hospital. Miss Armour, Matron of the Royal Infirmary from 1912 to 1932, for her gift of the property “ Surrey Bank,” Innellan, which realised £236. Supt. Smith and helpers for £409 raised by the Victory Ball. Members of the Inner Wheel for their gift of £255 towards the purchase of an electro-cardiograph and adult oxygen test. The Workmen’s Governors who organised the house-to-house collection for the Heatherdene Convalescent Home, which raised £158. All donors of blood for the use of patients. It has been our custom to conclude these annual reports with a personal expression of gratitude to the many friends who have given so much from year to year, but this report may be the last to be written during the Infirmary’s existence as a voluntary hospital and therefore heralds a new chapter in its history. As we reflect upon the host of men and women of every station and degree whose devotion has been built into the life and tradition of the Infirmary, we view the helpers of the past year as one with those who have served during 153 years and whose concern for its welfare has made the Sunderland Royal Infirmary one of the outstanding hospitals in North-Eastern England.
