    I am greatly inclined to believe, that flran- gulated rupture commonly takes place only when the perfon fubjedt to fuch complaint is really indifpofed, or rather predifpofed to fever of that kind which accompanies fuch inflammations. I have inquired of feveral whom I have at¬ tended, and they have aflured me that they have frequently had protruflons of the intefline, with¬ out finding either fever, inflammation, or much difficulty in refloring it to attend; that they have felt a languor and relaxation to precede the protruflon which has terminated in flrangu- lation, accompanied with a tendency to coftive- nefs ; and that in the latter cafe, fever, inflam- / mation, and pain, have immediately fucceeded the protruflon, and prevented its being replaced; when, at other times, the protruded part has remained a much longer time before it was re¬ turned, without being attended with either the one or the other.
