    INFANT MORTALITY. The number of deaths of infants under the age of 1 year was 27, 13 males and 14 females. This is 6 more than the previous year and 1.2 less than the average for the past 3 years, giving an Infant Mortality Rate of 40.85. The rate for England & Wales was 46. Number of Notifications of Birth “743 746 Maternity Services. There was a considerable increase in the number of cases attended by the Municipal Midwives during the year. Three midv/ives were employed, and each attended approximately 93 cases, an increase of 17 each. As a result of this there has been a slight diminution in the average number of visits per case, both ante-natal and post-natal. The point has now been reached when any further increase in the number of bookings will necessitate consideration being given to the provision of an additional midwife, possibly combined with district nursing.
