    bility, 30 from having previously had Small-pox, and 227 from having been previously vaccinated; 9433 children, being 8*29 per cent, of the whole, died before vaccination could be performed ; while 2721, being 2*40 per cent., had been removed from the district before vaccination could be enforced, or were otherwise not accounted for. (Table XIY.) This statement, however, does not show the true success of the Vaccina- tion Act in Scotland, for what we want specially to know is not the pro- portion of successful vaccinations to the total births, but what proportion of the children who survived their sixth month of life, were protected by vaccination. Table XV. is drawn up with the view of showing this fact, and from the totals in it are deducted all the children who died before vac- cination could be performed. From that Table it appears, that of the 104297 surviving children, whose births in 186G were entered on the Registers, 100408, being 9G’27 per cent, of the whole, were successfully vac- cinated.
