About this work

Description

The Duke of Gloucester left government due to his opposition to the Reform Act. Although he took little part in politics, Gloucester was an earnest advocate of the abolition of slavery both in parliament and as president of the African Institution. His pompousness and comic appearance made him the butt of caricaturists
