About this work

Description

The infant Christ holds out a ring to Saint Catherine (alluding to the story of her 'mystic marriage' with Christ). She kneels on a broken wheel, an instrument of her torture, and holds the martyr's palm. Saint Antony of Padua holds a flaming heart in his hand. The infant Saint John the Baptist unfurls his banner (upon which is usually written 'Ecce agnus dei')
