About this work

Description

"High Life" is the counterpart of "Low Life" (Wellcome Library catalogue no. 40073i) and represents a contrast of two worlds and shows the dogs as representatives of their absent owners, each with his own values

A castellated tower can be seen through the window

The deerhound in this picture represents the chivalric and aristocratic world of the past; scattered about are various historical props to conjure up a romantic and luxurious atmosphere: hawking gloves, rapiers, helmet and breastplate, a standing cup, a candlestick made from an eagle's talon and a bellpull
