About this work

Description

This is the fourth in a six-part series which uses cutting edge computer graphics and rare footage to show how the body fights for survival against the odds of trauma, illness and accident. This part focuses on how our bodies deal with medical crises while in the prime of life. Rubinda is 25 and has been hit by a speeding car which leaves her with horrific injuries including the traumatic amputation of her left leg below the knee. We follow her story from arrival at the trauma centre at the Royal London Hospital through surgery to repair a severed artery in her pelvis and onto her recovery and use of an artificial limb. Charlotte has a serious heart condition and is pregnant. The pregnancy is putting a huge strain on her heart - we follow her through her caesarian section and the birth of her child. And we watch as Marcus donates over half of his liver to his cousin Scott who is dying of liver failure.
