Description

Dr Colin Binnie talks to camera about the side effects of drugs for the treatment of epilepsy. Professor Alan Richens suggests that Lamictal (Lamotrigine) is an interesting development in creating a new class of drug with the effect of keeping the patient seizure free. Dr Timothy Betts also comments. Patients comment on the beneficial impact of the drug. An explanation of how the drug works is provided. Dr Timothy Betts comments on the clinical trial he carried out in Birmingham. One patient, Sarah, was severly disabled by seizures; her life has been transformed by taking the drug. Another patient, Josephine, talks about her new found confidence. Alan Richens provides his clinical experience. Patients comment as before. Dr Colin Binnie also then contributes; his speciality was treating intransigent patients who were awaiting surgery to improve their condition and, instead opted for Lamictal. A case study is provided.
