Cholmondeley Castle. Cheron del. E. Kirkall sculp. Vol II. The shield of Minerva bears the motto "Altior Italiae ruinis", a quotation from Horace Odes III.5, implying that Britain, or Cholmondeley Castle, would rank "higher than the ruins of Italy". The base on which the statue of Diana stands bears the inscription "Ex voto", identifying it as a votive offering. On the right is a statue of Diana of the Ephesians, inscribed in Greek with the name Artemis
